Basil Essential Oil

When you hear the word “Basil” what do you think of? Perhaps the kick of fresh pesto or maybe a good thin crust Margherita pizza. That thinking would be true of most people. However, if you’re an aromatherapist and hear “Basil” you might be thinking “mental focus.” Inhaling Basil essential oil is terrific for helping block out the distractions when you need to finish a project or require a little help studying for a midterm exam.

There are a few different types of Basil, but the most commonly used for aromatherapy is sometimes referred to as Sweet Basil, or French Basil (Ocimum basilicum), which has a high content of linalool.

In an age where we are tied to our smartphones and struggle to do even 5 minutes of an activity uninterrupted, Basil may be an unlikely ally to being more productive and effective. Maybe not as much as an allay that would have us actually turning our phones off, but hey…..baby steps.
