Breatherapy tabs are a unique new way to use aromatherapy that is safe, convenient and discreet. Being that you may not have seen them before, you might be wondering just how to use them. We answer many of these questions in our FAQ, but I wanted to take the opportunity to go a little more in-depth and offer a few tips and tricks that I’ve personally found to make using Breatherapy tabs a wonderful and customizable experience.

At their core, Breatherapy tabs work like a personal diffuser. They are truly about what you breathe! No essential oil will ever come in contact with your skin. With that in mind, one thing I often find is that people wonder how best to wear the tabs to experience their benefits. The first answer is: wear them somewhere where you can smell them. This could be a few different places depending on what you’re wearing and how sensitive you are to the scents being delivered to your nose.

Top Locations to Affix Breatherapy Tabs

My current favorite spot is on my mask! Hopefully, we won’t have to wear masks all the time in the near future, but one way to make wearing a mask a lot better is by enjoying a Breatherapy experience! I wear one on the inside when I go out for walks, but for a less intense experience wearing one somewhere on the outside is also really effective.

In general, I recommend placing Breatherapy tabs on the chest directly below your nose. In this location you smell the tab continuously and can have your hands free to do whatever else you need to be doing if it’s a busy day.  Depending on what you are wearing that could mean you place the patch on your skin, just below the neckline of your shirt. Other options are underneath a collar, on a lapel, really anywhere where you can smell the tab without having to adjust it. By all means find what works best for you!

Tabs and Their Effect on Skin

Regarding wearing the tabs directly on skin, some people may be nervous if they have sensitive skin or are prone to rashes. However, we want you to know we designed these tabs specifically with skin in mind! The adhesive that attaches our tabs is a medical-grade, hypoallergenic, hydrogel adhesive (the same material that attaches medical electrodes to skin, if you’re familiar). This occlusive barrier (the fancy way to describe this particular adhesive) has been strenuously studied to ensure it is both safe and non-irritating to skin. While we still recommend removing the tab if skin becomes irritated for any reason, I can say confidently that this will be extremely unlikely. I have sensitive skin myself and have seen many others who have it as well use our tabs on their skin without any issue.

In fact, wearing the tabs on skin is something of a pro tip! Due to the fact that your body heat warms up the tab (and thus the essential oil inside of the tab), you may find it’s a more pleasant experience and possibly more powerful affixed to your skin rather than clothing. Wearing Breatherapy tabs on your skin also gives you the option of discreetly hiding the tabs in case you don’t want it actively visible (a little tug on your shirt in a stressful meeting and no one knows you’re staying relaxed with the scent of a Calm tab).

How Long To Wear Tabs

So, what if you don’t want to smell your tab continuously? Some people may prefer smelling it only when they want to and not constantly. In that case, I recommend wearing it on the back of your hand, on the inside of your wrist, or on a cuff sleeve. That way you can easily bring it to your nose and inhale your favorite blend only when you feel like it.

Other favorite wearable spots! A Breatherapy Sleep tab on your pillowcase works beautifully if you’re a side-sleeper. An Energy tab on your steering wheel if you’re stuck in traffic, have a long commute or need to stay awake. A Focus tab on your computer monitor is excellent if you’re finishing your big presentation or studying for a final that you must focus on. Anywhere that is convenient is a good place for a Breatherapy tab. In fact, we would love to hear from you if you come up with any good spots for placing tabs, so let us know of your good ideas by emailing us:  info@breatherapytabs.com

Breatherapy Usage Tips

We’ve gathered a few issues you may run into with our tabs and offer some simple usage tips. For instance, if you’re using a Fortify tab before your big HIIT workout we recommend wearing the tabs on your workout clothes instead of your skin. Sweat can make the tab lose adhesion and fall off.  Additionally, if you wear lotions or oils on your body, we recommend a quick alcohol swab on oiled areas before placing the tab against the skin to make sure it sticks well.

On the other hand, if you wear the patch on a shirt collar and forget to remove it for a few days you may find some adhesive is left behind when you pull it off.  If that happens there’s no need to worry.  Our hydrogel adhesive is water-soluble and will come right off with a few drops of water added (no soap necessary!).

I hope you give Breatherapy tabs a try, and if you haven’t, hopefully this will convince you to give them a try now that you know all the hacks. A better-smelling world awaits you! One of the best ways to try a variety of Breatherapy tabs is with our aromatherapy kits:
